Unstoppable Turkey sweep Italy 3-0 at Volleyball Nations League Finals

Turkey earned a landslide 3-0 victory over Italy on Thursday at the Volleyball Nations League Finals in Nanjing, the capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Turkey were not intimidated by Italy, who boast super promising spiker Paola Egonu Ogechi, and took the first set 25-21.

In the second set, Turkey remained effective in both attacks and defense to win easily with 25-15.

In the third set, despite several powerful spikes from the Italian side, Turkey were more effective on defense. Turkey ended the game comfortably with 25-21.

A day earlier, Turkey defeated China 3-1 to enter the quarterfinals.

Turkish coach Giovanni Guidetti was very satisfied with his team's performance. "It was a very, very, very good day for Turkey, I think we've played one of our best games ever," he said.

For her part, Italy captain Cristina Chirichella said, "We are not this kind of team because we are better than this. But this time, good job for Turkey."

When talking about their next game against host China, the deciding game to see which team will enter the quarterfinals, Chirichella said, "Tomorrow would be a tough match [against China], it is an important match in the Finals. We are prepared to face off [against] them."

Earlier in the day, Brazil made a comeback win over "dark horse" Poland 3-2.

Brazil and the U.S. enter the quarterfinals in Group B, while Poland became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.

The U.S. and Brazil are set to clash on July 5.
