China's Zhang Shuai made the Wimbledon fourth round for the first time on Friday, coming back from 0-4 down in the opening set to beat former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

Zhang, the world No. 60, became the first Chinese woman since Peng Shuai in 2015 to reach the second week at the All England Club thanks to her 6-4, 6-2 win over the 14th seeded Dane.

Before this year, the 30-year-old had never won a main draw match at Wimbledon in five attempts.

"I've been looking forward to the first win for a long time. It's more like a breakthrough for me than a victory," Zhang said after the first round when she defeated Caroline Garcia from France 6-4, 6-0.

Zhang admitted that the first win at Wimbledon made her grow as an athlete and she continued to break her own record.

It was a record that reflected her previous struggles – she was 0-14 at the Slams until she broke through to the 2016 Australian Open quarter-finals.

"These three matches, I've moved well. If I want to win, I must be focused, clear my mind and play my game," said Zhang.

On Friday, she fired 26 winners against just eight for Wozniacki. She will go on to face either Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland or Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska.

Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion, has never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Her affection for the tournament would not have been helped by her unhappiness at what she claimed to be a number of poor calls by the Hawkeye review system.

In women's doubles, China's Duan Yingying and Zheng Saisai reached the third round of women's doubles at Wimbledon, beating Renata Voracova from the Czech Republic and Makoto Ninomiya from Japan 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 on Friday.

The pair stormed into the finals in last month's French Open, when they lost to Kristina Mladenovic from France and Timea Babos from Hungary 6-2, 6-3.

Duan said she texted Zheng before the French Open to compete together in 2019. "We always try to find Chinese partners in 2019. And I felt good since I played the first game of French Open together," Zheng said.

Duan and Zheng made a quick switch from clay court in France to lawn in England. In the first round, they beat Magdalena Rybarikova from Slovakia and Stefanie Voegele from Switzerland 6-2, 6-3 within 63 minutes.

The duo want to go further at All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club this time. "We hope that we can win the most prestigious Grand Slam title one day," Duan said.
