Tengger Desert is one of the largest deserts in China. Mostly situated in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the desert contains dunes, lake basins, and plains. It has remarkable continental climate characteristics. The accumulated temperature is high and there is abundant sunlight in the area.

The desert is also the country's national sand control scientific research demonstration area, and has been praised as a "sand control miracle." The Shapotou area at the southern edge of the desert is a national nature reserve.
