The 1991, 1999, and 2015 Women's World Cup champions are looking for another title at the quadrennial showpiece to balance out the four Summer Olympic golds in the USA's trophy case. Long-serving co-captain Megan Rapinoe was sidelined with a hamstring injury as the Americans gritted out a 2-1 victory over England in the semifinals, but says she expects to be ready for Sunday's title match against the Netherlands in Lyon.
"Yeah, feeling good, it's kind of one of those things," said the forward. “It was just minor to begin with, so every day it feels better and better, and just increasing the load and hopefully being ready for the final."
Fellow co-captain Alex Morgan scored what turned out to be the winning goal against the Three Lionesses, and then celebrated with a raised pinky gesture while simulating the drinking of tea.
The move went viral online, and with the game held just two days before the Fourth of July, prompted some English fans to speculate that she was disrespecting their squad and supporters by referencing the colonial-era Boston Tea Party.

"I don't know where Alex came up with it. If it was something that was talked about prior to the game, I didn't even see it from my view on the bench. It's all about kind of having some fun, and last night's game had everything in it – red card, PK (penalty kick), VAR decisions – you name it, and it had it. It was pretty spectacular. We said this all along; it's going to take all 23 players," said USA midfielder Carli Lloyd.
On the other side, the Dutch will be looking to continue their breakout blitz through the bracket, after edging Sweden 1-0 in extra time in the last four. Jackie Groenen found the back of the net in the 99th minute to send the Oranje to the championship contest for the first time ever.
Now the surprise finalists have their sights set on stopping the Stars and Stripes, and ending this tournament with one final twist.
