Last month, Salik received sponsorship from China's Hailiang Education Group to pursue his studies at Hailiang Foreign Languages School, a private boarding school in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province. The school invited Salik's family to come to China in January to see if they liked it. /VCG Photo

The boy was so happy with the campus, and in hope of studying English and Chinese, Salik convinced his parents to let him leave home. The boy can make video calls with his family living far away in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. /VCG Photo

Salik, who reportedly spent seven years working to support his family, is now happy to be a student. He hopes to study at China's prestigious Peking University, and aspires to be a businessman like Jack Ma, trading goods between Cambodia and China. /VCG Photo
