China's foreign ministry lashed back on July 3 at remarks by Britain's foreign secretary on Britain supporting Hong Kong residents to "pursue freedom" as the protest turned violent on July 1, the 22nd anniversary of the region's return to China.

Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that Jeremy Hunt appeared to be "immersed in the faded glory of colonialism and is obsessed with condescendingly criticizing other countries." He urged the UK, especially their Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, to cease overreaching and interfering in the Hong Kong affairs.
