A legendary saga that follows a guerrilla team in Inner Mongolia fighting against Japanese soldiers during China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is brought to life on stage as an original Chinese opera is presented at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The opera, titled "Beacon Fire on the Green Mountains", is based on true stories featuring people from different ethnic groups fighting against the Japanese on Daqingshan Mountain in Inner Mongolia led by the Communist Party of China.

Numerous unknown heroes, who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield, are honored in the presentation.

The performance commemorates their spirits of sacrifice and endurance, as well as the long-term resistance against the Japanese invasion.

Sunday marked the 82nd anniversary of the Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937, also known as Marco Polo Bridge Incident or July 7 Incident.

The tough battle is widely considered as the beginning of Japan's full-scale invasion of China.

The historical opera, which debuted in September last year, was produced and performed by the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater and Hohhot National Performing Arts Group.
