Sprinter Noah Lyles is one of the youngsters tipped to become the sport's new face after the retirement of Jamaican legend Usain Bolt. The American lived up to the hype at the IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne on Friday by winning the men’s 200 meters.

The 21-year-old extended his lead in the final stretch and crossed the line first in 19.50 seconds, a Lausanne meet record. It’s also the fourth-fastest time ever recorded in the event. Lyles' time ranks only behind Bolt, the Jamaican Yohan Blake and U.S. Olympic great Michael Johnson in the history of the 200 meters. Ecuador's Alex Quinonez and Andre DeGrasse of Canada rounded out the podium in Switzerland.

Born in 1997, Lyles boasts great form in the new season and won the 100 meters at Shanghai's Diamond stop in May. He is confident that he can break the world record. In a recent interview, the sprinter stressed that he does not want to be called the next Usain Bolt, but the next Noah Lyles.

China’s Xie Zhenye recorded a personal season best of 20.32 seconds in the men’s 200 meters and is ranked seventh.

In the women’s 4x100 meters, Team China won the silver medal in 42.50 seconds behind winners The Netherlands in 42.33 seconds.

In the men’s 110 meters hurdles won by Orlando Ortega of Spain won in 13.05 seconds., China’s Xie Wenjun finished fifth in 13.29 seconds.
