One of Altay's most stunning features is Caoyuan Shicheng, or Grassland Rock City. This geological wonder is 60 square kilometers of granite rock formations, a product of tectonic movement and wind erosion. With just a touch of imagination, you'll realize they're quite life-like!

Here in Altay, the culture of China's Kazakh ethnic group is strong, and a big part of that is singing and dancing, especially during summer nights on the pasture.

There's so much wide-open space and intoxicating beauty in Altay – and you won't have to compete with throngs of tourists to enjoy the stunning scenery! In fact, Xinjiang is the largest autonomous region in China, covering over 1.6 million square kilometers. Mind-boggling, isn't it? In this episode of Travelogue, join us in Altay for a wild and wondrous adventure.
