On a warm and humid summer night, cicadas, one of the loudest insect singers, are changing 'costumes' for the live summer music. The molting process is an important stage in a cicada's life, allowing the body to expand under controlled and protected conditions.

After shedding their skins, the abandoned exoskeletons or exuviae still cling to the bark of the tree, while the newborn adults fly to the best branch and start their songs.
