The unveiling ceremony for the China-Uruguay and China-Cuba Commemorative Envelopes took place on Friday at Liangmaqiao Diplomatic Office building in Beijing.

Themed "Envelopes Travel Thousands of Miles, Remain True to Our Original Aspiration," the ceremony was part of a cultural exchange program sponsored by the China Foundation for Peace and Development, in honor of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and to enhance friendly ties between China and multiple nations.

Unveiling the commemorative envelopes and addressing the ceremony were Wang Hua, deputy secretary-general of the China Foundation for Peace and Development; Fernando Lugris, Uruguayan ambassador to China; and Lisbet Quesada Luna, chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Cuban embassy in China.

The main illustrations on the two commemorative envelopes symbolize the achievements of cultural exchanges between China and the two Latin American countries.

The painting Scales of Dragon on the China-Uruguay commemorative envelope, featuring a galloping dragon in an eight-diagram pattern with exotic elements, was jointly created by Chinese artist Zhu Shouzhen and Uruguayan artist Gustavo Fernandez.

The one on the China-Cuba commemorative envelope was a co-work of Chinese artist Wu Xiaolin and Cuban artist Li Dominguez Fong. Titled Red Mecca, it features the Jinggang Mountains and the Sierra Maestra with azalea and pansy flowers in a riot of colors, symbolizing the two countries’ revolutions and struggles.

The artworks on the commemorative envelopes embody great feelings. "Artists were inspired by the representative elements of their own countries, and collaborated to record the beautiful friendship between our people through art," said Wang in his opening remarks.

The event is also part of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of China-Uruguay parliamentary friendly exchanges, Lugris said.

"Next year, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cuba diplomatic ties, and meaningful events of this kind can keep deepening the friendship between the people in our two countries," Lisbet said.
