Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has promised to invest one billion yuan (145 million U.S. dollars) in Chinese women's football over the next decade.

Alipay, the third-party payment platform of Alibaba, signed a 10-year project with the women's national team on July 5, actively contributing its part to the development of women football in China.

Alipay said it is the biggest investment in women's soccer in China ever, but it is not a sponsorship and no commercial purposes attached.

The initiative serves as an extension of Alipay's two-year project to support young girls in Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, south China's Hainan Province, where several girls are enrolled in national youth teams.

Meanwhile, Chinese Football Association (CFA) and Alipay will set up a women's football fund to supervise the money, according to Cai Yong, CFA executive.

The CFA also said it will raise the salaries of the female footballers and improve the training conditions.

Last November, Alipay announced an eight-year cooperation imitative with Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to introduce Europe's football culture to China, bringing benefits to the development of women's football as well as the entire Chinese football.
