A tour of China's 'forest oxygen bars' – Liping National Forest Park

China's fourth "forest oxygen bar" list, a reference to places with plenty of trees, was recently released. CGTN will be reviewing 10 of the 22 listed forest parks. Today, we travel to Liping National Forest Park in southwest China’s Guizhou Province.

Located in Liping County of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province, Liping National Forest Park covers an area of 4,573 hectares. The forest coverage rate here reaches as much as 94.5 percent and most of the forests sit at an altitude between 500 to 1,256 meters.

A subtropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius, the park is a pleasant place to visit all year round.

Besides boasting abundant natural resources, Liping county also holds four Guinness World Records:

1. The world's largest group of Drum Towers Zhaoxing Drum Tower Complex

In 2001, Zhaoxing was included into the list of Guinness Book of World Records for Zhaoxing Drum Towers and Dong villages. Zhaoxing, the largest Dong ethnic town in China, boasts the largest Dong drum tower complex in China.

2. The world's largest natural stone arch bridgeTiansheng Roofed Bridge

Tiansheng Roofed Bridge made it to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest natural stone arch bridge in the world. The bridge spans two mountains with a longitude of 350 meters and width of 98 meters. The arch spans 118.92 meters and the bridge was built over 30 meters above the water.

3. The earliest type of Drum Tower in the world Single-column Drum Tower

The Single-column Drum Tower, built in 1636, is the only current embryonic form of drum towers in the entire Dong area. The whole building has only one "core column" running straight to the tower top that was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records on January 15, 2001. The drum tower is a wooden structure building with seven floors and four corners with a height of 15.6 meters.

4. The longest and largest sultan wood buried in the world fir cedar

A piece of fir cedar was found in Liping County in June 1992 with a base diameter of 2.36 meters and a growth ring between 1367 and 1437 years. According to scientific verification, this piece of wood has been buried in the ground for up to 3676 years, which makes it allegedly the largest preserved tree body unearthed in the world so far, and the remains of a fir cedar that have been buried for the longest time to knowledge.

1. Transportation: Tourists can take a high-speed train to Kaili Station or Kaili South Station first and then rent a car or take a long-distance bus to Liping National Forest Park in about three hours.

2. Opening hours: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

3. Entrance fee: 80 yuan (11.6 U.S. dollars)
