After winning the men's team and women's team gold medals in table tennis at the ongoing Summer Universiade in Napoli, China have added another gold to their tally as Yu Ziyang and Wang Yidi bagged the top honors in the mixed-doubles event.

In fact, even before the start of the mixed-doubles final, the Chinese contingent was assured of a gold medal as the title clash also featured another Chinese pair, Zhao Zihao and Fan Siqi, who didn’t lose a single set before the final in the tournament.

The first game was quite tight and the score was leveled at 8-8, before Yu and Wang won three points in a row to win it 11-8.

In the second game, as Fan failed to return Yu’s forehand, the leaders took another dominating game 11-3.

At game point in the third, Yu smashed a forehand to win it 11-6 to gain a 3-0 overall lead.

Then, Zhao and Fan took one back in the fourth game but Yu and Wang were too good for their opponents as they won the fifth game 11-7 en route to winning the match 4-1 overall.

Meanwhile, China had a dry spell in the track & field events for the day. In the men’s 10,000 meters, China's Wang Hao finished seventh in 30 minutes 8.59 seconds.

In the first two laps, Wang and his compatriot Xie Chao were both inside the top 10. But after 4,000 meters, Xie fell behind. South Africa's Mokofane Kekana led to the finishing line and won the race in 29 minutes, 29.43 seconds.

Japan's Hiroki Abe and South Africa's Adriaan Wildschutt were second and third respectively while Xie was unable to finish the race at the end.
