China's consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.7 percent year-on-year in June and the producer price index (PPI) remained flat from a year ago, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Wednesday.

Food prices gained 8.3 percent year-on-year in June, contributing 1.58 percentage points to the overall CPI's year-on-year growth. Fruit prices surged 42.7 percent year-on year, expanding 16.0 percentage points over the previous month.

Non-food prices gained 1.4 percent, adding 1.10 percentage points to the overall CPI figure, NBS data showed.

Prices of other supplies and services, healthcare, education and entertainment rose 2.7 percent, 2.5 percent and 2.4 percent respectively, while clothing, housing, household goods and services rose 1.8 percent, 1.6 percent and 0.8 percent respectively.

Besides the impact of climate and other factors, lower prices during the same period last year also contributed to the price increase in June, said NBS official Dong Yaxiu.

NBS data also showed the PPI, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, remained flat year-on-year. The PPI rose 0.3 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2019.

In June, factory prices of production materials dropped from 0.6 percent in May to 0.3 percent. Consumer goods prices gained by 0.9 percent year on year, the same as the previous month. 

Among major industries, coal mining and non-metallic mineral product industries saw slower price rises last month compared to the previous year, according to the NBS.

At the same time, oil and coal processing and oil and natural gas extraction industries saw a fall in prices last month.

On monthly basis, consumer prices edged down by 0.1 percent last month, and producer prices went down by 0.3 percent.
