While most people try to avoid exposing themselves to heat during summer, there are some who gather in the Kumtag Desert, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to undergo sand therapy, a traditional Uygur treatment that is now widely popular among people from across the world for easing joint pains and other ailments. The scorching July sun has attracted over 3,000 tourists to the desert since the start of the month. It must be noted that sand therapy should only be conducted under proper medical supervision.
