Torrential rains have continuously pelted many parts of China over the last two days, flooding many areas and threatening lives and property. In the city of Liling, central Hunan Province, torrential rains flooded several villages, stranding local residents. As of 15:30 BJT on Wednesday, the aviation brigade of the fire department flew 16 helicopter sorties and rescued 42 trapped residents. In the county of Xiajiang, eastern Jiangxi Province, torrential rains submerged roads and swept a car dozens of meters away on Tuesday. Rescuers used a rope to drag the driver out of the turbulent floodwater. A dam burst on Tuesday in Laibin City, southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Local police officers rushed to the site and started rescue operations.
