Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday congratulated Kyriakos Mitsotakis on assuming office as prime minister of Greece.

In a congratulatory message, Li said that in recent years, China-Greece relations have maintained a sound momentum of rapid development.

High-level exchanges between the two sides have been frequent and political mutual trust has been consolidated, he said, adding that the Piraeus Port is a symbolic achievement of the joint construction of the Belt and Road.

In April, Greece was accepted as a full member of the China and Central and Eastern European Countries cooperation mechanism, which has created a new platform and new space for cooperation between China and Greece.

Li said the Chinese government highly values the development of China-Greece ties and is willing to make joint efforts with the new Greek government to deepen traditional friendship, enhance policy dialogue, promote the alignment of development strategies, expand pragmatic cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and push forward the development of the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership so as to better benefit the two countries and peoples.
