Team China collected its third diving gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships in the South Korean city of Gwangju as Cao Yuan and Xie Siyi won the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard final on Saturday.

The Chinese pair got a total of 439.74 points after six attempts, defeating Jack Laugher and Daniel Goodfellow from Britain who recorded 415.02 points and Celaya Hernandez and Castillo Huerta from Mexico with 413.94 points.

The men's synchronized 3m springboard has been China's forte for a long time. Chinese athletes had won gold in this event six straight times at the World Aquatics World Championships until 2017 in Budapest where Cao and Xie lost in their last attempt.

This time in Gwangju, the degree of difficulty (DD) of the first two rounds was fixed at 2.0. Cao and Xie's first two moves ended in one success and one failure, leaving them only seventh with 96.60 points.

From the third round, athletes were allowed to chose their own DD. It took the Chinese pair three moves to get 76.50, 82.62 and 93.96 points respectively, rising to the top before the last move with 349.69 points.

In the last dive, Cao and Xie chose DD 3.8 109C (4 1/2 somersaults in tuck) and finished it well to get 90.06 points, winning the gold medal they lost two years ago back for China.
