Anthony Davis has finally put a rest to all the speculations and ended days of uncertainty to arrive at the Los Angeles Lakers' training complex. Soon after making his much-publicized entry, the NBA star proudly held up his new gold jersey while LeBron James looked on approvingly.
While introducing Davis at a press event at UCLA Health Training Center on Saturday, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka hailed his side's latest big-ticket recruit as "the most dominant young basketball player in the world."
"And so it's not only his basketball skills but who he is as a person that makes us so proud today to introduce Anthony Davis as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers."
The six-time All-Star, who was agreed to his departure to the Lakers this month in one of the biggest moves of the NBA's tumultuous offseason, told the media: "And when you know, it was announced that I was being traded, I don't want to say it was a sigh of relief. It was just you know, something that you know, that I've thought about for a long time. Obviously, it was tough for me to, you know, leave a city I've been playing for seven years. But now I think it was best for me and it was my time. When I found out I was getting traded to the Lakers, I realized it was an unbelievable opportunity for me to be here, a wonderful organization."

Although it became quite clearer that Davis was relocating to Los Angeles, the courtship was happening for much longer, keeping the grapevine abuzz.
"Honestly I'm focused on the season. When I got traded here, my goal was to bring a championship here with the team that we have. And when that time comes around next year, you can ask me that question, we can revisit it. But right now, my focus is on this year and trying to figure out how I can help this team and help the organization become a championship team," Davis mentioned.
While Pelinka clearly expected Davis to sign a long-term deal to stay with the Lakers, Davis didn't disclose his intentions right away.
"It will be fun for sure. You know I'm excited about it. I think the league has grown. I think it's better. When all the players teaming up and kind of spreading that talent throughout the league, it's gonna be a fun season. I like our roster. I like every player that we have from 1 to 15 or 14. So I'm excited about it. I'll put our roster up against anybody. I feel like that in a seven-game series that we'll come out victorious," the 25-year-old remarked.
Davis will play with the jersey No. 3 as his earlier plans to take his usual No. 23 from James fell through thanks to rules involving jersey supplier Nike.
He stated: "To get a full season and to see the things that he's able to do, pass, shoot, he talks well defensively, he's a great leader. So I'm excited to get a lot of that this season and just go from there."
Incidentally, the Lakers have been the worst team in the NBA during their team-record six consecutive seasons out of the playoffs, but with Davis joining their ranks, the popular NBA side is expecting a quick turnaround in their fortunes.
