Fourteen people were killed, including 13 army officers, when a building collapsed in northern India on Sunday, local media reported on Tuesday.

Preliminary reports said the building in the Solan district of the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh collapsed due to incessant rain over recent days.

Twenty-eight people were also injured, including 11 civilians, Solan Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar said.

Around 45 people were having lunch in the building when the incident occurred.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said, "A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Strict action will be taken against erring persons after getting the report."
