The grueling Silk Way Rally finally came to an end as its 10th and final stage got over in Dunhuang in northwest China on Tuesday.  

Continuing his invincible run, Nasser Al-Attiyah claimed the title in the cars for the first time after winning each of the previous nine legs and capping it off with a win in the final stage as well.  

The magnificent Qatari rally driver was followed by China’s Han Wei, who finished second to set the country’s best record at the event. 

The 556.66-kilometer-long final leg proved to be one of the toughest as it winded its way along rocky tracks and through the dry river beds of the Gobi Desert. Al-Attiyah, who came second twice in previous editions, cruised to win once again to make it 10 out of 10 and bag his first victory of the prestigious rally along the ancient Silk Road in China. 

The rally introduced a two-wheel category this year and Britain's Sam Sunderland, who rides for KMT and won the Dakar Rally in 2017, outpaced Andrew Short of the USA, the winner of three stages, to become the first ever Silk Way motorbike champion on Tuesday. 

While in the trucks division, Russia's Anton Shibalov held on to his overall lead from the start to win the coveted trophy.  

While sharing his experience at the event, which has been gaining massive popularity in the world rally circuit over the past couple of years, said, “It's beautiful. These are daring boys and girls who race on their motorcycles. They fly and soar over the steeps and the sands. It's a real pleasure to watch them, so we will continue to practice this and of course, continue to please the motor sport fans of the Silk Way Rally.”
