China-Russia relations have been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era and the bilateral ties will be stronger after the fruitful results achieved by the two countries in various areas, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told reporters on Wednesday.

His remarks come after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov refuted the "China threat theory" on Wednesday, highlighting that China-Russia's comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has entered a new era.

China highly appreciates the Russian foreign minister's positive comments on China-Russia relations, Geng said, stressing that the relationship between the two countries, following President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Russia last month, has entered a new era and will never experience third-party interference.

According to Geng, China and Russia signed the Treaty of Good-neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation 18 years ago. Since then, the two countries have established the idea of an ever-lasting friendship in legal terms. The two sides have also reached a four-point agreement, showing firm support for each other, Geng added.

The spokesperson noted that China and Russia have built a high level of political and strategic trust, and see each other as a most trustworthy strategic partner.

In the new era, China will continue to reinforce mutual trust and mutual support with Russia, work jointly to safeguard the fairness and justice in the world as well as to inject more impetus to the international community, said Geng.
