China has rejected comments from U.S. President Donald Trump that the U.S. is being forced to make a trade deal because of China's slowing economy, as the two sides prepare for more talks. "It's completely misleading to say, as the U.S. side does, that because of its economic slowdown China is eager to reach an agreement," said Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, on Tuesday during a regular press conference. On Monday, China published data showing its quarterly GDP growth had slipped to 6.2 percent, yet an impressive figure compared with most economies in the world.
