A giant portrait of Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, was created in a field near the northern Italian city of Verona to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Italian land-artist Dario Gambarin used a tractor to produce the 26.000 square meter (279.862 square feet) picture of the American astronaut in a field in Castagnaro. The artwork was part of a global wave of commemorations that celebrated the golden anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, which took place on July 20, 1969.
