U.S. Air Force warned people against storming Area 51 in Nevada, after a Facebook event calling for people to meet up at the "Alien Center tourist attraction," went viral and reached over 1.6 million "attendees" as of Thursday. /VCG Photo
Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews told ABC News that they had been aware of the issue and warned that "any attempt to illegally access military installations or military training areas is dangerous." /VCG Photo
Area 51 is a military base where Air Force tests and trains combat aircraft, explained McAndrews. However, conspiracy theorists have been long suspected that the base, which was formally recognized by the federal government in 2013, is devoted to study extraterrestrial life forms, which refers to aliens, as well as their technology and crashed UFOs. /VCG Photo
The Facebook event, which was created by a user on June 27, is scheduled for 3 a.m. on September 20 in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. So far, the event has been marked for "attending" by over 1.6 million users and "interested" by over 1.2 million users. /VCG Photo
It is not sure whether these people who registered for the Facebook event would actually meet up at the "Alien Center," but lots of people took it as a joke as they created and shared numerous funny memes and videos about what might happen if they meet aliens at the base. /VCG Photo
