A special birthday bash was held to celebrate panda "Qiqi" turning one year old at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park on Wednesday, with the birthday girl lapping up all the attention and enjoying a very tasty treat.

Breeders at the park prepared a yummy birthday cake comprising a mix of fruits, bamboo and ice for the little panda. Qiqi appeared excited by the birthday gift and munched down the delicious cake with her mother "Gongzhu," which means princess.

Many visitors came to share in the happy occasion and were pleased to see the young panda enjoying herself.

"I wish Qiqi to grow up well and live a happy life every day like a real princess," said a visitor surnamed Wu.

With Qiqi being the 14th child of Gongzhu, her name translates as "seven seven" in Chinese.

"This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of our country. The little panda's name 'Qiqi' includes two sevens, which does make a lot of sense," added Wu.

After devouring her cake, Qiqi went back to her special enclosure which is equipped with an air-conditioning system for a little rest after all the excitement.

Staff say the youngster is in good health and is slowly learning how to eat bamboo alongside her mom.

"Qiqi is expected to be able to eat bamboo and some other complementary foods by herself when she turns one-and-a-half years old," said Zhong Yi, vice general manager of the Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
