China has lodged a "solemn representation" against the imposition of U.S. sanctions on Iran involving four Chinese firms, said Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during a regular press conference on Friday.

The U.S. on Thursday accused four Chinese companies of helping Iran acquire materials for its nuclear program.

"China always opposes United States' unilateral sanctions on other countries by using its domestic law," Geng said, adding that the U.S. should stop its wrong moves.

American pressure on Iran and its long-arm jurisdiction is the root of the deteriorating tensions, he said.

China firmly opposes nuclear proliferation in whatever form and participates in international cooperation on resolving this issue, Geng noted.
