Chen Yufei was the only Chinese in the women's singles semis of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament on Friday in Jakarta.

She defeated American Zhang Beiwen, 21-14, 17-21, 21-16 in the quarterfinals, followed by her semifinal match with Indian Pusarla V. Sindhu.

China's men's singles players had a bad luck day as none of them could advance into the semifinals.

Huang Yuxiang, the only Chinese of top 8 who beat defending champion Kento Momota of Japan earlier, lost to Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand in straight sets, 21-10, 21-17.

However, China triumphed in all doubles events.

In men's doubles, China's Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen assured the semifinal berth after sending out their compatriots He Jiting/Tan Qiang by 21-17 and 21-12.

The Chinese pair would take on defending champions Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulja from the host country next.

No. 1 mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong from China, successfully earned the semifinal berth after defeating their British opponents Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith, 21-12, 21-13.

"I did not expect the match could end that fast. It was because we had better preparation and more effective strategies throughout the match," Zheng Siwei said.

"As we already gone to this far, we are confident for the semifinal tomorrow. But still, we have to play it step by step and have more spirit during the match," he added.

Another Chinese mixed doubles pair Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping also earned a semifinal berth, during which they would vie against Malaysian semifinalists Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying.

Meanwhile, in women's doubles group, the tournament's 2017 champion Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan from China advanced into the semifinals after they stopped their compatriots Du Yue/Li Yinhui, 21-17, 21-14.
