The U.S. Open total purse this year is more than 57 million U.S. dollars, the richest in tennis history.

The men's and women's singles champion will each receive 3.85 million U.S. dollars, and the men's and women's doubles champion teams will get 740,000 U.S. dollars. Those are both the highest payouts in U.S. Open history.

The record total is an eight percent increase over the 2018 total, with payouts for each round of the 2019 U.S. Open being the highest in the history of the sport's four majors, the organizers say.

According to the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), the tennis governing body in the U.S. has worked with the ATP and WTA Tours to determine specific round-by-round prize money levels, and that the payouts for each round are all Grand Slam tournament records.

The payouts start at 58,000 U.S. dollars for the first round of singles.

The USTA added that it will make a payment of 500,000 U.S. dollars to each tour to support the ATP and WTA Tour player programs, including pension.

"The U.S. Open prides itself on offering the best tennis players in the world the richest total prize money in our sport," said Patrick Galbraith, USTA president and chairman of the board.

"We strive to be innovative, and feel that our new contribution of 500,000 U.S. dollars to both the ATP and the WTA will go a long way toward the long-term financial well-being of all of our sport's athletes."

The final major of the year will be played from August 26 to September 8 in New York.
