The Changbai Mountains lie on the border between China and DPRK. Baitou peak is the tallest peak of Changbai Mountains and in northeastern China at an elevation of 2691 meters.
Tianchi, Chinese for "heaven lake", is the deepest lake in China. It's a crater lake atop the volcanic Changbai Mountains. The maximum depth of the lake can reach 384 meters, with an average depth of 213 meters.
The lake can be observed from the north, west, and south on the Chinese side, while the eastern slope lies in DPRK.
Last time the Changbai volcano erupted was in 1702. A monitoring station of the volcano was built in 2006 to closely monitor the volcanic activity of Changbai Mountains.
