A children's play titled "Adventures of Alfa Planet", staged Wednesday in Beijing, brought environmental protection awareness to Chinese youths through the use of puppets.

As part of the 9th China Children's Theater Festival, the 75-minute play unfurls with an intense and exciting plot. The protagonist finds a beautiful and abundant parallel universe, Alfa Planet, deemed to have been only a legend, however later discovered it had been heavily polluted.

The performance is intertwined with puppetry, a traditional Chinese art performance, to teach young children the importance of protecting the environment, as well as encourage them to not fear failure.

Puppet masks, wooden-rod puppets, and sock puppets are used in the play to display the figures' transformation of size.

Led by the China National Theater for Children, the 37-day children's theater festival opened on July 6, featuring 191 performances of 57 different children's plays.
