Arsenal players Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac encountered a knife-wielding carjacking gang in London on Thursday evening, but escaped without injury after a struggle.

A video circulating on social media shows Kolasinac beside the car fighting off the would-be carjackers using his fists. Ozil fled the scene with wife in the car, before abandoning the vehicle to seek refuge in a nearby Turkish restaurant. Ozil, his wife and Kolasinac were unharmed. 

"We have been in contact with both players and they are fine," Arsenal said in a statement. 

Midfielder Ozil and defender Kolasinac are both from Germany and played for Bundesliga side Schalke 04. 

Kolasinac transferred from the Royal Blues to the Gunners in June 2017, while Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.

The 26-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international features a strong figure with a height of 183cm and a weight of 86kg, heavily contrasting with the slim Ozil.

Even though Ozil is five years older than his teammate and friend, they have good personal relationship off the pitch.
