A performance marking the 10th anniversary of the premiere of "Jane Eyre" by the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will appear in the 2019 NCPA International Theatre Festival from July 26 through August 3.

Scriptwriter Yu Rongjun, director Wang Xiaoying and other original casts including actress Yuan Quan, and actor Wang Luoyong, will reproduce this enduring classic of hundreds of years.

As the first version of Charlotte Bronte's literary classic on the Chinese theater stage, the NCPA's Jane Eyre premiered in June 2009. Since then, the play has not only been performed for several rounds in the NCPA in Beijing but also toured in Shanghai, Chongqing, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, and other places.

Wang Xiaoying, the director of the play, also praised actress Yuan Quan for her performance of Jane Eyre.

"In the limited space and time of the theater, people will have an illusion: The girl in front of them is Jane Eyre," said Wang.

Yuan Quan also won the Plum Performance Award by this role, the highest honor in the Chinese theater industry.

"We try to make the relationship between the two characters stronger, and I'm looking forward to bringing my experience and new feelings to the audience this time," said Yuan.

The NCPA will welcome a total of 42 Chinese and foreign dramas in this year's theater festival.

Besides the Jane Eyre, "King Lear" by Japanese theater master Tadashi Suzuki, will feature actors from different cultures, including China and Japan. With Suzuki's specialized training, the actors will show Shakespeare's famous work with enough understanding and harmony.

Since its inception in 2015, the NCPA International Theatre Festival has presented 291 performances from 16 countries and regions.

Across the cultural and language barriers, people from different countries and regions gather at the NCPA to engage in dialogue on the theme of drama. Meanwhile, more and more Chinese productions and original Chinese masterpieces are also showing vigorous artistic vitality in the International Theatre Festival.
