China and Russia will further strengthen cooperation in the fields of high technology and energy, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi when meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Brazil on Friday.

Noting that China-Russia relations was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia in June, Wang said this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two sides.

The Chinese foreign minister noted that China-Russia relationship is a stabilizer in the global society and China is willing to work with Russia to jointly maintain legitimate rights and interests of the two countries and the international justice.

Lavrov echoed that Russia will work with China to promote development of bilateral ties and achieve more practical results, adding that the two sides should strengthen cooperation in regional and global issues.

"Cooperation between China and Russia has strong internal motivation and is not affected by external forces," he stressed. "Any attempt to provoke Russia-China cooperation will not succeed."

The two sides also exchanged views on Iran nuclear issue, Venezuela crisis and other international and regional issues of common concern.

Foreign ministers of China, Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa held a meeting in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro on Friday to prepare for the November BRICS summit in Brasilia.
