Bam Adebayo, the 22-year-old big man of the Miami Heat, has been added to USA training camp for the coming FIBA Basketball World Cup in China, reported ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Here is the full list of 18 trialists: Harrison Barnes, Jaylen Brown, Andre Drummond, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Kuzma, Brook Lopez, Kyle Lowry, Khris Middleton, Donovan Mitchell, Mason Plumlee, Julius Randle, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, P.J. Tucker, Myles Turner, Kemba Walker, Thaddeus Young and Bam Adebayo.

As four of the above come from the Boston Celtics (Walker, Tatum, Brown and Smart), some joked that Team USA should call themselves Team Boston.

That might sound funny but a comparison of this list with the 20-player list announced on June 10 may make American fans lose their smiles.

The previous 20-player list: Harrison Barnes, Bradley Beal, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, James Harden, Tobias Harris, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Kyle Lowry, C.J. McCollum, Khris Middleton, Myles Turner, Kemba Walker, Kyle Kuzma, Brook Lopez, Paul Millsap, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, and P.J. Tucker

Firstly, players on the old list overpowered their counterparts on the new list in All-Star (39-11), All-NBA First Team (9-0), All-NBA Second Team (4-0), All-NBA Third Team (5-3), All-Defensive First Team (1-1), All-Defensive Second Team (3-0), NBA MVP (1-0) and NBA Championship (3-2).

Secondly, only Walker, Lowry and Mitchell are the core stars of their teams, not to mention that Walker only led the Charlotte Hornets to the playoffs twice in eight years; Lowry has been more of an orchestrator than scorer and Mitchell only played two seasons in the league.

Thirdly, the playing style of the 18 players, no matter which 12 are chosen, do not make a squad that best fits today's basketball trend. They lack 3-point shooters – the only player who has enough production in this area is Lopez; they rely too much on isolation play in the middle range but none of such players – Barnes, Tatum, Middleton – has been reliable enough.

Of course, there's good news. The USA should be able to have good rim protection and rebounding with their roster, which are the guarantee for the team's trump card – fast break in transition. However, transition offense alone is not enough to win the game. Considering that the USA's major opponents all have great defense in the paint – Rudy Gobert for France, Giannis Antetokounmpo for Greece, Marc Gasol for Spain and multiple giants for Lithuania – and the fact that there's no defensive three-second violation under FIBA rules, USA will struggle in the half-court game.

The USA's training camp will take place between August 5 to 10 before the final 12-man list is announced on August 17. They will first compete with Turkey, the Czech Republic and Japan in Group E in Shanghai. On September 1, the USA will meet their first opponents Czech Republic at the Oriental Sports Center.
