The Yellow River has thick and heavy sediments. The river bed in one downstream section is higher than the horizon.
To prevent flooding, overall control of water and sand is needed.
For the past 20 years, the impressive view of water being released by the Xiaolangdi Reservoir has become a tourist attraction.
