The National Museum of China extends its opening hour until late night during the summer vacation, and so do a couple of other prominent museums in Beijing.

To promote Beijing's nighttime economy, the National Museum will stay open until 9 p.m. on Sundays during the summer holidays starting from July 28.

A full name reservation is needed for visits during the extended opening hours according to the official website of the National Museum, with a maximum of 10,000 appointments per night.

The booking can be made on the museum's official website and WeChat account.

There will be guided tours for several of its exhibitions.

The special exhibition "The Splendor of Asia – An exhibition of Asian Civilization" will be on display until August 11. It brings together more than 400 cultural relics from all 47 countries in Asia, Greece and Egypt, among which 109 are from China.

The "Xinjiang Cultural Relics Exhibition" will be open until September 9, showcasing a total of 191 pieces (sets) of exquisite cultural relics unearthed throughout Xinjiang, from the Qin Dynasty (221 to 206 BC) to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368).

For art buffs, the Van Gogh Immersive Experience – "Fantasy of the Inner World" opens until September 22. The exhibition recreates Van Gogh's artwork using a 360-degree Virtual Reality (VR) device.

Meanwhile, some of the National Museum's popular exhibitions including "The Road to Revival" and "Ancient China" are also open to the audiences at night.
