China's central government hopes that Hong Kong will get over the political contentions as soon as possible and instead concentrate on developing its economy and improving people’s livelihood, according to Yang Guang, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

Yang made the remarks regarding the ongoing protests in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) at a press conference held in Beijing on Monday, July 29.
