Several prisoners were released after receiving one of nine categories of special pardons for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Among the released prisoners include a 51-year-old man surnamed Lu from east China’s Jiangsu Province, who was released on July 21 and a 54-year-old man surnamed Xu from south China’s Guangdong Province who was released on July 27. They both expressed sincere gratitude to the CPC and the government and showed a strong willingness to contribute to society after returning home.

This is the ninth time special pardons have been given since the founding of the PRC, according to an official with the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee.
