CJ McCollum and the Portland Trail Blazers have reached a three-year, 100-million-U.S.-dollar contract extension, according to the player's agent Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports.

The agreement was completed on Tuesday be Goldfeder and Neil Olshey, president of basketball operations of the Trail Blazers.

"CJ McCollum is a franchise cornerstone and a critical part of our future. This extension represents a strong level of commitment between CJ, the Trail Blazers and the city of Portland," said Olshey.

In this way, Rip City gets to keep their backcourt golden pair for at least another five years: a five-year, 157-million deal for McCollum and a six year, 257-million deal for Lillard.

One thing for sure is that McCollum did Portland a favor by accepting the contract. As a player who can drop 21 points, four rebounds and three assists, he will only make about 31.4 million U.S. dollars in the next five years. By contrast, other second fiddles are enjoying much bigger contracts – Khris Middleton got a five-year, 178-million deal from the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers gave Tobias Harris a five-year, 180-million contract.

McCollum's style of playing suits with Portland too. Firstly, he can play without the ball and his 40.1-percent 3-point-rate in career makes him a big moving threat on the court. Secondly, McCollum is an underestimated playmaker. McCollum can take over Portland's offense when opponents focus in on stopping Lillard. Thanks to his 49.0-percent 2-point rate, he put down 24.7 points, five rebounds and 3.7 assists in the playoffs last season. In Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets, McCollum made the biggest contribution the Trail Blazers' victory with 37 points and nine rebounds.
