Fifteen-year-old sensational Cori Gauff from the US who made a stunning run to the fourth round at Wimbledon fell 6-4 6-2 to Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan in the first round of ATP Washington Open on Tuesday.

The World No. 146 surprised everyone at SW19 as she defeated five-time champion Venus Williams and became the youngest player to advance to the fourth round and was only defeated by eventual champion Simona Halep. But her story didn't go as far in Washington.

Gauff started the match strongly by breaking Diyas in the first game but was broken back immediately, only to regain the lead at 4-3. The turning point came at the end of the first set as Diyas converted her fourth set point of the game when Gauff sent a forehand into the net.

In the second, Gauff did herself no favors, smacking her 33rd unforced error on match point, which gave Diyas 16 break points. The Kazakh took five of them and advanced to the next round, 6-4 and 6-2.

"I don't think it's my biggest win, but it's of course, a good win," Diyas said after the match. "She's so young, but she's a great player. I knew it was going to be tough, but I'm really happy with my win. She's so strong. She has a great serve, and she's moving well. I think I was playing more aggressive today, and I served better. "

Gauff can only play in a maximum of six more professional events before she turns 16 next March.
