An exhibition about Tibet's Tashilhunpo Monastery and nine Panchen Lamas will debut at the Palace Museum in December 2019, China News Service reports.

It is the first time the Palace Museum will host an exhibition about the Tashilhunpo Monastery since its founding in 1925.

More than 220 sets of cultural relics will be displayed, with about 140 from the Palace Museum and about 80 from Tashilhunpo Monastery in Xigaze, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Most of them will be on display for the first time.

The exhibits show how Panchen Lamas kept contact with the ambassadors of the central government during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), which reflect the difficult process of the government unifying the whole country from the first half of the 17th century to the 18th century. They are also associated with auspiciousness and longevity in Chinese culture.

In conjunction with the exhibition, creative cultural products using the Palace Museum's animal images as design elements are released. The animals are pixiu, a Chinese mythical hybrid creature, and elephant, which represent kindness, gentleness and auspiciousness.
