The meeting between Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has sent out a clear message of upholding and implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Wang met with Mogherini on Thursday on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting in Bangkok. Both of them agreed to work together to uphold the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core.

During the talks, Wang reaffirmed China's support for the integration of the EU, with the hope that new EU institutions could pursue a China policy that is consistent and forward-leaning.

For her part, Mogherini reiterated the EU's commitment to deepen cooperation and enhance connectivity with China.

China willing to enlarge the pie of cooperation with India

During the talks with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar, Wang showed his willingness to expand cooperation with India in the fields of investment, energy, tourism, communication, and connectivity.

"China attaches great importance to the trade imbalance between the two countries," said Wang, hoping India could foster a fair business environment for Chinese companies in India.

S. Jaishankar said his country is optimistic about the prospects of India-China economic cooperation.

On the 5G subject, the minister stressed that India will make an independent decision in accordance with its own interests.

India also holds a positive attitude toward the building of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, he added.

China, Brunei to continue seizing opportunity provided by BRI

On the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting, Wang also held talks with Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan Yusof.

Wang called for more efforts to promote the construction of the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor through seizing the opportunity provided by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

"China is ready to promote the implementation of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea as scheduled with Brunei," said Wang.

Yusof echoed Wang's stance that Brunei is willing to strengthen the high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation with China.
