Four spots to beat the heat in central China's Hubei

Central China's Hubei Province is known for its summer heat, with temperature crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark at times and mercury levels changing slightly between daylight and nighttime.

The local governments have selected a few destinations for tourists to stay cool within the province. Their criteria set included but were not limited to: comfort index, forest coverage, air and water quality. Tourism resources and infrastructure status of the sites were also taken into consideration.

Below are four place to escape the summer heat in Hubei Province:

 Dajiu Lake National Wetland Park is located in the Shennongjia Forestry District. In Chinese, "Jiu" means "nine", indicating the number of lakes in the park. There are shuttle buses within the district that transport tourists to their destinations. The Wetland Park is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from late March to the end of November. The park consists of vast grasslands and a lot of water bodies, covering an area of about 121 square kilometers.

Located in the northeastern part of Hubei Province, Luotian County is a beautiful summer getaway with its reservoir and mountainous scenic spots, namely Peak Bodao in Mt. Dabian.

Bailihuang connotes a far-flung place. "li" is a Chinese measurement unit for distance, which equals 500 meters, while "Bai" translates into 100. The site might not have been populated in the past, but things have certainly changed. The Alpine Grassland Resort there has attracted streams of tourists thanks to its fun programs and beautiful scenery. The resort is located near Yichang, a prefecture-level city in the southwest of the province.

Shibatan is some 130 km away from Wuhan, the provincial seat, and is only 20 km away from Xiaogan Station of the the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway. Besides, the scenic spot has a wildlife park that offers young parents with children another choice.
