Chinese international Wu Lei played a key cameo role as a substitute as Spanish La Liga club Espanyol overpowered Iceland club Stjarnan 3-1 in the second leg match at Stjornuvollur stadium, just south of capital Reykjavik, to complete a 7-1 aggregate victory in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League.

The talismanic Chinese forward, who played a pivotal role for Espanyol during the first round of qualifying, came on the field in the 65th minute to help them inch closer to the main draws of the leading European club tournament.

Earlier, his side Espanyol took an early lead as a solo run from Adrian Pedrosa drew the first blood for the Spanish side in the 5th minute.

In the 52nd minute, Pedrosa's pass found Borja Iglesias, who didn't make any mistake to make it 2-0. Then Wu came off the bench in the 65th minute to replace Iglesias and bolstered his side's attack.

Just 13 minutes after the Chinese striker's arrival, his teammate Facundo Ferreyra found the net to seal an emphatic win for Espanyol.

Even though Baldur Sigurdsson scored a consolation goal for Stjarnan in the 87th minute, all of that was in vain as Espanyol's comfortable aggregate win helped them to sail into the third round of the qualifiers in which they will face Swiss club Luzern.

Meanwhile, in other results, Torino beat Debrecen 4-1 and 7-1 on aggregate, Frankfurt finished Flora 2-1 at home and 4-2 on aggregate while Wolverhampton Wanderers topped the Crusaders of Northern Ireland 4-1 for a 6-1 aggregate victory.

The third round will get underway on Thursday.
