The craspedacusta was spotted Friday in the Gongshui River National Wetland Park in Xuanen County, central China's Hubei Province.
Craspedacusta is a freshwater jellyfish with a diameter of only 2-2.5 centimeters.
Often being referred to as the "peach flower fish", it was a token for love in ancient Chinese culture. The romantic folklore says it is transformed from peach flower petals that fall into the water.
It is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN Red List, and is under first-class state protection in China.

Unearthed fossils dating from 500 million years ago show the jellyfish maintains the body shape of their remote ancestors.
