The Pamir Mountains are home to over 50,000 Chinese Tajiks. Some 4,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by snow ridges, the place boasts a one-of-a-kind scenery. Due to its extreme terrain, economic development was sluggish until some two decades ago, when the local government stepped up efforts to develop the community.
