Top Chinese experts have warned the U.S. moves to escalate trade tensions with China will cause disruption to the global economy.

They believe that no one will benefit from the trade war. The scholars and experts sounded the alarm at a seminar on China-U.S. trade ties.

They said U.S. President Donald Trump's recent announcement of imposing a 10 percent tariff on 300 billion U.S. dollars' worth of Chinese imports was a serious violation of the consensus made by Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Osaka in June.

The U.S. government on Monday accused China of manipulating its currency, according to the U.S. Treasury Department. And China has suspended its purchases of U.S. agricultural products. The past and present have proven that China and the U.S. stand to benefit from cooperation, and lose from confrontation.

Gu Xueming, director of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, said: "The U.S.' move in escalating trade frictions, imposing additional tariffs and accusing China of being a currency manipulator, does not serve the interests of the two peoples or the whole world, it will have major impact to the global economy, especially on the global industrial, supply and value chains. Jin Xu, chairman of the China Association of international Trade, said: "We want to import more and we can import more, we have a big market and we have lots of consumers in China, they should know that and not make any trouble. China will treat American business fairly, and we want the same from America."

Zhou Mi, senior research fellow at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, said: "Actually, we have not seen any compromise from the U.S. side, so I think it's not good, because negotiation should have both parties to move towards each other, so we decided that we should do something to change the situation by suspended the purchases of U.S. farm products until further active signals sent by the U.S. side."
