A new-look Indian cricket team have made a remarkable comeback by beating reigning Twenty20 world champions West Indies in the three-match T20 series with a 3-0 clean sweep on Tuesday.
With their emphatic seven-wicket victory in the third and final T20 game in Guyana, Virat Kohli's boys not only won the series but also buried the ghosts of their shock semifinal exit in last month's ICC World Cup in England.
Earlier, new-comer Deepak Chahar bowled his heart out to restrict the Caribbean side to 146 for six after the home team elected to bat first in the rain-delayed game at the Guyana National Stadium on Tuesday.
Chahar, who was included in the playing eleven along with his uncapped brother Rahul after India had sealed the series with victories in the first two matches last weekend at the Central Broward Stadium in Florida, US, dismantled the West Indies batting with his cunning and accurate medium-pace and had the dream bowling figures of three wickets for four runs off his first three overs.
Kieron Pollard played a stellar role in steadying the ship for the hosts as the big man smashed a stroke-filled 58, putting together a 66-run partnership with Nicholas Pooran (17) for the fourth wicket. Another Indian new-comer and fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who was adjudged man of the match on his international debut in the opening encounter of the series on Saturday, broke the formidable partnership between Pollard and Pooran after dismissing the latter.
He subsequently removed danger-man Pollard to end the all-rounder's power-packed innings, comprised of only 45 deliveries and studded with six sixes and one four. Leg-spinner Rahul also claimed the wicket of West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite to mark his debut international match with a wicket.

In reply, India began their chase quite steadily, and half-centuries by captain Kohli and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant took India home without burning much sweat. An explosive Pant top scored with an unbeaten 65 while Kohli played a solid innings of 59 not out as their unbeaten third-wicket partnership amassed 106 runs to ensure an easy victory for the tourists. This was the sixth consecutive defeats in a row for the 2016 World T20 title-holders.
After winning the series with an experimental squad by introducing a slew of first-time players, a jubilant Kohli mentioned: "We wanted to try out a few players here, but the priority was always to win the game. Deepak's skill is really up there with Bhuvneshwar (Kumar). He is really lethal with the new ball."
While his Caribbean counterpart Brathwaite remarked: "We didn't start well with the bat again. Not sure why the top order isn't firing, but we've made some changes to the squad and will have to look for improved performances going forward."
